I have a HP Pavilion DV7 4273US, still running windows seven. It Is very slow to Boot up and the first few initial minutes it does run after boot, it runs rather slow. And even after running a little while, it takes about a minute or more sometimes to open open any apps. I need to know what i can upgrade in my computer to have it run faster. Troubleshoot a Slow PC in Windows 7 1 Open the Control Panel. 2 Beneath the System and Security heading, choose Find and Fix Problems. 3 Choose the link Check for Performance Issues. 4 Click the Next button in the Performance Wizard window. 5 If the troubleshooter recommends that you check. (Solved) - Windows 7 (very slow and very laggy)
(20 posts)I am experiencing this odd problem right now, my windows 7 pro 32bit is very slow and laggs too much. I've been using this computer for 3 years I think, in-tack all original parts are still working since the day I bought this computer. But just this month I am experiencing this problem. Like when I watch youtube videos there's a crunchy sounds and when I scroll down its very lagg and made the crunchy sounds even worst and when I go to a website that plays a video on the homepage the system become very slow and scrolling down is pain in the ass, even on facebook when I scroll down it laggs too much like when you scroll down to a page its stop.stop.. not the usual thing I experienced before, this is very weird.
I tried to scan my computer with anti-virus/malwares, but found nothing. I even tried to do a clean install (3 times) I updated the OS as well, but still no luck the problem persist and I am really confuse how to fix this problem. I even swap other Hard disk because my friend says it may be due to my HDD because it was 3 years old then, but still the slowness and laggyness of my system is still there and this problem was not around years agon just this months or weeks only I came to experience this. I am really bothered how to fix this. I hope you guys can help me with this or give some insights and recommendations on how to fix this things up.
EDIT: I've also tried to downgrade the OS, I use the Win7 Home Premium 32bit just want to see if it will solve the problem, but no luck again :<
my specs
Dual core processor: 2.80GHz and 2GB DDR2 RAM and 1GB DDR2 video card.
Does the SATA cable may cause the problem too? I did everything but I did not seem to solve this problem ;( need help.
Only Thing would be to upgrade the RAM, but as you said it had been running fine for 3 years, and a clean install, I would suspect some hardware is on its way out, you could try changing the sata cable, problem with stuff like this, its trial and error mostly.
Windows 10 virtual machine. Yeah, I've been using this computer for a long time and I'ts really weird why is this happening and I can't figure out how to fix this :(
I even tried to use an IDE HDD but still same problem again :( What other factors could you suggest that may cause this problem?

I would be looking at definite hardware problems.
Did you install the processor yourself? There may be a breakdown between the heatsink and the fan assembly, I would break it and reseat again with good CPU paste.
Next, take out the ram and swipe the connection strip with Isopropyl alcohol. Do the same with the Graphics card.Does the card have a fan, brush it or airdust it.
Ensure all wired / cabled connections are clean also, disconnection and reconnection may deal with oxidation problems.
Do the same with the 2 power connections to MB, merely unplugging and reinserting can make a difference.
In general, make sure that the fans you are running are in fact running, air dust them all as a matter of course.

Like Mike is suggesting, all fingers point to a h/w problem.
You're on W7, so the first thing I can think of is either CPU or hard disk. There is a Gadget for the CPU that will show what is being used in percentage. Pick up ALL CPU METER and install it and see how much CPU you are actually using. Near 100%, that would cause what you are seeing, but WHAT is causing that, usually processes. Task Manager when the process tab is sorted on CPU would show which ones.
Assuming this is 'normal', than the next thing to look at is hard disk performance. Check out CRYSTAL and get the Disk Mark and Info and run them. After you get READ/WRITE performance numbers, check the hard disks vendors site for spec.'s on your hard drive. If out of spec., then suspect the hard drive.

@Mike
'take out the ram and swipe the connection strip with Isopropyl alcohol.'
You mean those color gold metals?
Can you suggest me a good software that displays/monitor the temperature of my hardware???
SIW will do it under Sensors, but you have to know what is out of range.
You have a single 500GB SATAII drive it seems. Test the read/write on it, it could be the problem and check the results against the spec, 126 MB/s is the max.

tech27, What' s the motherboard model? Try going into BIOS setup and look for something like 'Load Setup default' or 'Load optimized default' and setup the BIOS as such. Save and restart the PC.

Yeah that was the first thing that I've done after I experienced this problem. But apparently didn't solve the problem T_T
Just an update to my problem, first I wasn't able to re-apply the thermal paste on my processor and cleaning the RAM with alcohol. What I did right now is that I downgrade my OS to Windows XP. Now my computer is stable and didn't experience the problem again. I did not experience the laggyness while opening many tabs and playing video at the same and the sounds is ok and not crunchy. But I'm really sad because I really want win7 back. I'm bored with XP :( I know xp is good but I am more comfortable using win7 ;(
Just a question if I may. Why were you not able to reseat the heat sync and clean the memory contacts? In your first post you seem comfortable switching HDD. So checking these two things should be something you can do.
Just now , I was able to clean the RAM, only the RAM I use an eraser to clean the RAM but wasn't able to buy thermal compound to reseat my heatsink.
I did not use the 'alcohol' method on cleaning the RAM stick, because I am not comfortable on using it. I may damage my RAM if I mess up on doing it :<
Ok yes good news! The problem is gone already! I did what mike suggested, 'Do the same with the 2 power connections to MB, merely unplugging and reinserting can make a difference. ' I've done that and presto! after installing the updates and changing my theme with cross fingers I just heard the normal system sounds with no delays and cracks. Also done a video test while scrolling onto pages and the lag is gone also. Thank you very much for saving me. ehehe thanks to all!
http://www.mcmelectronics.com/...4AodBQoAeA I like to keep some contact cleaner around. This is an example. Glad your running again.

One way you can evaluate PC sluggishness in Windows 7 is to use the performance troubleshooter. This tool exists as an option for Windows 7 users only. It is not available in Vista or XP. It doesn’t always find the issue for you, but occasionally it can pin point the issue so you can fix it. So why not give it a try?
1Open the Control Panel.
You’ll find the Control Panel icon on the Windows Start menu.
2Beneath the System and Security heading, choose Find and Fix Problems.
The Troubleshooting window is displayed.
3Choose the link Check for Performance Issues.
The link is found beneath the System and Security heading at the bottom of the dialog box.
4Click the Next button in the Performance Wizard window.
What happens next depends on what the troubleshooter finds.
5If the troubleshooter recommends that you check programs to improve start-up performance, click the Next button.
Do not click the Start System Configuration button. Clicking it brings up the MSCONFIG utility to let you disable various start-up programs. This will only speed up the start-up process in your computer.
6Click the Next button.
The wizard attempts to find other problems. If it finds other problems, you can act on them accordingly.
7Click the Explore Additional Options button.
This option is only useful if you haven’t already located the problem in an earlier step.
8Click the Close button.
